The feeling of putting pen to paper is something I love, and it’s even more enjoyable if the finished work is beautiful not just in content but in aesthetic.
When I was a student I used to write out poems with calligraphy pens and coloured ink, and put them up on my walls. Recently, I’ve started writing in this way again, to create gifts for family members.
This picture is a calligraphy write-up of one of my poems, called Some Days Are For Dancing, which was recently recited at an arts party in London by a friend and fellow word-lover. As you can see, it’s a work in progress, with the pencil guidelines yet to be erased, but I rather like that about it.
