Quote of the Week: Robert Frost

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood and I –

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

We had to memorise The Road Not Taken in sixth form until we were able to recite it. It’s one of the few pieces of homework I remember really well, because I’m glad still to be able to recall the lines.

What exactly is the difference Frost speaks of? Is it something he is glad of, or regrets? Or is it, like so many of life’s big decisions, not quite so clear cut as all that?
